Student Parliment

At Hadley Learning Community, Student Parliament represents the voice of the student body, their views and the decisions that help to shape the school and our community.  At the start of every academic year, a team of students, from all years, elect 2 form representatives. These elected representatives are responsible for collecting the thoughts and opinions of their peers and sit on the HLC Student Parliament. As an elected representative, they will also participate in regular student voice sessions with senior leaders to support progress in both teaching and learning.  We understand the importance of the role and how it can help to provide new opportunities and a voice for every child.

Intent

At HLC we have student led committees that represent our 5 values of Belong, Respect, Inspire, Succeed and Enjoy as well as mental health and well-being.  We aim to help young people to have a say over matters that affect our school, our community and our wider lives.  Our representatives learn the importance of Fundamental British Values which underpin what it is to be a citizen in a modern and diverse Britain – Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance.

The role is important because we can offer the views of the student body when decisions are being made that make our school what it is: a happy, safe, learning environment where all students matter.  Student Parliament is involved in the interview process of teaching and support staff and are encouraged to work towards finding ways to action the voice of the students.  Understanding the decision-making processes involved with the successful running of a school in today’s modern world maybe the stepping stone into further opportunities at local or even national levels.

In year 11, students are elected to head student roles and are responsible for driving change and improvement for the overall student body and representing student thought and opinions to the school leadership team.
