Our Vision
Our students will walk through the door of their school, where everyone belongs, with pride. Our children, families and wider community will know that we support them as we are rooted in all aspects of local life. We believe that our school can only be as strong as the community we serve and, as a result, we know that our school is responsible for providing the foundations for our community to thrive.
Our students will appreciate the importance of their education and respect those within their school environment, and beyond, who strive to nurture each and every one to be the best that they can be. Our children will recognise the importance of being well-mannered and polite individuals who have the confidence and self-assurance to represent themselves, and their school, with credit.
Our staff will instil a drive and ambition that inspires every child to fulfil their potential. We will create opportunities for lifelong learning ensuring that their time within our classrooms is only the beginning of their journey. Our students will be equipped with a love of learning that will provide them with the skills to contribute to their world whether it be locally, nationally or globally.
Our students will be confident in the knowledge that our staff will do everything within their power to ensure they succeed. Our students will understand that they need to work hard, be resilient and driven in their approach to their studies. We will embrace a ‘can do culture’, which will encourage us to learn from our mistakes and develop an understanding that by supporting each other anything is possible. Our vision is to provide our students with an exciting curriculum and linked opportunities that inspire them to charge at barriers that might stand in their way to fulfilling their goals. We will mould our young peoples’ lives through the arts, sports, STEM and hundreds of other initiatives giving them the tools to flourish.
We will stand by our belief that as a school we can transform a community to understand that education is the most valuable gift anyone can offer you. We will believe in our students and promise to give them the opportunities they dream of. We will shape happy, young people who relish learning in a safe environment. We will all call our school our own and be proud to be a part of the HLC family.
Our Values
The development of every student
We will inspire our students to respect themselves, others and the environment in which they belong, allowing them to succeed through the enjoyment of learning.
Not only will pupils see our values around the building, hear them within conversations as part of our regular dialogue, but they also wear the values with pride on their blazers.
School values shape the culture of a secondary school, guiding how students learn, interact and grow. When young people feel they belong, they gain the confidence to participate fully in school life. By showing respect, they build positive relationships and contribute to a safe, supportive community. The value of inspire encourages curiosity and ambition, helping students see what they can achieve. With this foundation, they are empowered to succeed both academically and personally. Above all, when students enjoy their learning, school becomes a place where they thrive, discover their strengths and develop a lifelong love of learning.
We work with pupils to demonstrate these values, with each year group paying close attention to a particular value. This value will appear as a common theme within their assemblies throughout the year. As well as this, pupils will be asked to complete half termly projects to contribute towards the ethos of the school and develop transferable skills.
Our Values
Belong, Respect, Inspire, Succeed, Enjoy
Year groups will focus on the following values:
- Year 7 – Belong
- Year 8 – Respect
- Year 9 – Inspire
- Year 10 – Succeed
- Year 11 – Enjoy
Pupils will receive a ‘Values Passport’ where they can work through certain goals towards their specific value. This will be monitored and kept by their form tutor. When all goals are achieved, pupils will receive their badge for their value. They can wear this on their blazer with pride for the duration of their time at HLC!
